Bill Maher heaped insults at Jay Leno’s expense following theories that the legendary late-night host’s recent injuries were the result of his gambling debts.
Sit down for Maher’s Podcast “Random Club”, Maher mentioned the brutal facial injury Leno suffered when he fell down a hill while at a hotel in Pennsylvania in November.
“It’s a conspiracy theory, since you’ve had three accidents, you actually have gambling debts and you’re being beaten by the mob,” Maher said, referencing an article about the unfounded claim.
Leno was totally on board with the outlandish theories that ridiculed the premise and how the mob would get to him.
“I love the idea of the mob driving to Greenburg, Pennsylvania, waiting outside the Hampton Inn on a rainy, sleety day to throw me down the hill.” the 74-year-old said.
Maher, 68, defended the bizarre theories and joked that Leno made up the story of falling off a hill to hide his alleged gambling problems.
“That’s not what they’re saying, please don’t mischaracterize him,” Maher interjected. “They say that throwing you down the hill was your cover, and they just beat you up like the mafia always does.”
Leno was staying at a Hampton Inn hotel outside Pittsburgh and opted to walk up a “60 to 70 foot” hill to reach a nearby restaurant.
The comedian lost his balance and rolled down the hill, He hit his head with a rock, which hit him in the eye.
Leno was seen wearing an eye patch while eating lunch. at an In-N-Out days later.
Maher referenced a motorcycle accident that seriously injured Leno by breaking his collarbone and ribs in January 2023.
“When you had that other accident, when you fell off your ‘motorcycle wink,’” Maher said.
Leno tried to explain that he was tied with a rope in someone’s driveway, but Maher dismissed it as another attempt to hide gambling debts.
The former “Tonight Show” host was involved in two horrific incidents, two months apart, in late 2022 and early 2023.
Leno suffered second and third degrees burns in a car accident which forced him to “have a new face, when his face caught fire,” he told Maher.
Two months later, Leno was involved in a motorcycle accident that split his new face, leaving him with the need to “call his face boy.”
“The article began by saying ‘Jay Leno, who is worth $450 million, has gambling debts,’” Maher said. “I thought it was a big gambling debt.”
Leno proposed to his alleged mob attackers the idea that they should leave him alone and instead take a car from his vast collection.
