The president of the United States, Joe Biden, will meet with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, as part of his visit to France to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the decisive Normandy landings during World War II, also known as D-Day, and which will take place just a few days before their next meeting during the G7 summit in Italy.
“While in Normandy, you will have the opportunity to sit down with Zelensky and talk about the situation in Ukraine and how we can continue and deepen our support,” White House National Security spokesman Jake Sullivan said during a press conference. .
In that sense, he recalled that both leaders are going to see each other twice in a week, and that they will meet again during the G7 summit in Italy, which will take place between June 13 and 15.
Regarding the Normandy landings, Sullivan made an analogy with the Second World War and the current situation in Europe, highlighting his “obligation” to continue “fighting for freedom.”
“NATO has expanded under Biden’s leadership, and we are all working together with the 50-nation coalition to support Ukraine in its fight against Russia’s brutal aggression, where today, in 2024, 80 years later, we see dictators once again trying to challenge the world order,” he added.
