Dec. 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Biden Administration plans to hold Israel’s interim prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, directly responsible for the actions of the most extreme members of his future coalition government, which includes far-right parties.
Two US officials, whose names have not been released, have assured the Politico newspaper that Netanyahu “can expect much more than harshly worded press releases from the State Department” in the face of possible actions by his government partners, especially as regards regards Gaza and the West Bank.
These statements leave the door open to other types of actions by the Biden Administration, although for the moment it is unknown what type of measures Washington has prepared to hold Netanyahu responsible for the entry into the government of the far-right Otzma Yehudi, the ultra-orthodox Shas and ultranationalist Religious Zionism.
A few days ago, Netanyahu charged another US newspaper, ‘The New York Times’, for advocating “undermining” the next Executive in an editorial in which the newspaper stated that the coalition could pose a threat to democracy in the country.
The Likud-led bloc, which has the support of several ultra-Orthodox and far-right parties, has 64 of the 120 seats in the Knesset, leaving Netanyahu the way open to return to office less than two years after his electoral defeat. in 2021.
