Biden visits Germany this Thursday after canceling the trip last week due to Hurricane ‘Milton’

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, will be in Germany on October 17 and 18, where he will meet with Chancellor Olaf Scholz and other leaders of the country, after he had to cancel the visit last week as a result of the hurricane. Milton’ that hit Florida.

The objective of the trip is “to coordinate geopolitical priorities, including the defense of Ukraine against aggression and events in the Middle East,” the White House said in a statement. Biden will also “reaffirm his commitment to democracy and his fight against hate and anti-Semitism.”

Although initially the visit to Germany was scheduled as a state visit, with an official banquet and other honorary appointments, now the protocol will be considerably reduced, as revealed by German media last week.

It will be Biden’s only bilateral visit to Germany in his almost four years in office and the first overall since he announced his withdrawal as a candidate for the White House. Although he attended the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Bavaria in 2022 and made refueling stops at the Ramstein military base on other occasions, he had not yet dedicated a solo trip to that country.

On the other hand, the White House has also confirmed that Biden will travel to Luanda, the capital of Angola, during the first week of December, thus being the first visit to an African state since he is president of the United States.
