The president of the United States, Joe Biden, has highlighted the “justice” that represents the death of the general secretary of the Shiite party-militia Hezbollah, Hasan Nasralla, who died on Friday in an Israeli bombing in Beirut.
“Hassan Nasrallah and the terrorist group he led, Hezbollah, are responsible for the deaths of hundreds of Americans in a four-year reign of terror,” Biden published in an official statement from the White House.
Nasrallah’s death in an Israeli bombing “is a measure of justice for his victims, including thousands of American, Israeli and Lebanese civilians.”
Biden wanted to “contextualize” Nasrallah’s death within the framework of the open conflict after the attack by Palestinian militias in Gaza on October 7, 2023. “The next day Nasrallah made the fatal decision to join hands with Hamas and open the called ‘northern front’ against Israel,” he argued.
“The United States fully supports Israel’s right to defend itself against Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthis and any other terrorist group supported by Iran,” Biden stressed.
The US president has mentioned that on Friday he ordered the Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, “to strengthen the defensive position of US military forces in the Middle East as a deterrent against any aggression and to reduce the risk of a broader regional war.”
Biden has stressed that “our ultimate goal is to de-escalate the open conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon through diplomatic channels.” “In Gaza we are trying to achieve an agreement supported by the UN Security Council for a ceasefire and the release of the hostages,” he explained.
And in Lebanon, the United States has been negotiating a deal that would “allow people to safely return to their homes in Israel and southern Lebanon.” “It is time to close these agreements, for the threats to Israel to be withdrawn and for the Middle East region in general to gain greater stability,” he stressed.
