Biden trips and falls during Air Force graduation ceremony, recovers quickly

President Joe Biden tripped and fell after handing out the final diploma at a graduation ceremony at the United States Air Force Academy on Thursday.

President Biden, 80, quickly got to his knees with the help of three people and walked back to his seat without help.

As Biden was helped up, he pointed behind him, appearing to indicate what he tripped over.

White House communications director Ben LaBolt said on Twitter that Biden was doing well. “There was a bag of sand on the stage as he was shaking hands,” he explained.

The drop came after Biden delivered a commencement address to a flag-waving audience in which he warned graduates they will be going into service in an increasingly unstable world, citing challenges from Russia and China.

Biden is running for re-election in 2024. Doctors declared him healthy and fit for work after a physical in February.
