US President Joe Biden will hold a news conference on Thursday where he will face questions from the media after several days of criticism and skepticism about his energy to stay in office for four more years.
The event occurs at finish the summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Washington, which brought together this week leaders of the 32 allied countries, as well as their partners.
The news conference was scheduled for 6:30 p.m. local time and will take place after a hectic day of meetings with alliance members, creating high expectations about the 81-year-old president’s performance.
Donors, supporters and Democratic lawmakers have expressed doubts about Biden’s ability to continue his re-election campaign after his recent performance in the presidential debate against Donald Trump.
Top congressional leaders have remained silent as they huddle privately with other lawmakers. But House Speaker Emeritus Nancy Pelosi opened the door this week to continued conversation about Biden’s political future when she said publicly that “it’s up to the president” to decide what to do, even though Biden had already emphatically told Congress he would stay in the race.
Earlier on Thursday, Biden announced a new $225 million military aid package for Ukraine’s defense and stressed his unwavering support for the country.
