US President Joe Biden on Friday expressed his gratitude to King Abdullah II of Jordan for his “fundamental” efforts to provide humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip following the October 7 attacks and reiterated US support for the Jordanian authorities in their attempt to stabilize the region.
During a telephone conversation, Biden not only “commended Jordan’s extraordinary humanitarian response in Gaza under Her Majesty’s leadership, which has been instrumental in addressing the humanitarian crisis in northern Gaza,” but also updated the monarch “on their ongoing efforts to secure the release of hostages and a ceasefire agreement.”
“The two leaders also discussed the situation in the West Bank and President Biden’s efforts to enhance the viability of the Palestinian Authority (PA) by promoting reforms and ensuring that the PA has the revenue it needs to provide for the Palestinian people,” the White House said in a statement.
Washington took advantage of the call to assert “the United States’ unwavering support for Jordan as a partner and ally in promoting a more stable, prosperous and integrated Middle East region.”
