The president of the United States, Joe Biden, has underlined this Monday the “resilience and resolution” of the Armenian people in a commemorative message for the anniversary of the genocide of more than one and a half million people at the hands of the Ottoman Empire at the beginning of the 20th century. , also called Great Crime.

“Today we pause to remember the lives lost during the Armenian genocide and renew our promise that we will never forget it,” he said, referring to the genocide as ‘Meds Yeghern’, a term previously used by other presidents.
Thus, he has pointed out that “in the following years, more than a million and a half Armenians were deported, massacred or headed for death in a tragedy that has affected generations of Armenian families forever.”
“As we join other countries around the world in remembering this painful history, we can observe the resilience and resolve of the Armenians, many of whom survived and were forced to start new lives in lands like the United States,” he recounted before affirm that “all over the world, Armenians have found hope”.
In this sense, he has affirmed that “they have managed to rebuild their communities” and “give shelter to their families while preserving their culture.” “They have strengthened our nation (…) while seeking to ensure that a genocide of this type is not repeated,” she added.
“Today we renew this promise. We pledge to fight against hate, to stand up to defend Human Rights and prevent this type of atrocity. And together, we will redouble our efforts to forge a better future in which all people can live with dignity, security and respect,” he said.
