Hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the annexation of four territories in Ukrainethe president of the United States, Joe Biden, publicly responded that his country, along with its allies, are not afraid of the Kremlin’s actions.
“The United States and its allies are not going to be intimidated by Putin and his irresponsible threats, they are not going to intimidate us,” Biden said at an early afternoon White House briefing.
Following constitutional referendums that were described as a “farce” by much of the international community, Putin announced on Friday the annexation of the territories of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia.
The president stressed, as he has been doing for months, that his Administration is going to recognize this territorial annexation, while revealing his hope that Congress will approve a new assistance package for Ukraine, this time of about 13,000 million dollars .
“The United States is prepared, along with our NATO allies, to defend every inch of NATO territory,” emphasizing, “Mr. Putin, don’t misunderstand my words…every inch.”
In addition, Biden announced that the US will be in charge of sending an investigation team to determine the causes of the fault in gas pipeline systems Nord Stream 1 and 2, built to transport gas from Russia to Europe.
“It was a deliberate act of sabotage,” he assured, and announced: “in due course we will send divers to find out what happened.
