July 15 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the United States, Joe Biden, has landed this Friday in the Saudi city of Jeddah, where he plans to spend the next two days as part of his tour of the Middle East, which has already taken him to Israel.
The US president’s Air Force One landed at King Abdulaziz International Airport shortly before 6:00 p.m. (one hour earlier in mainland Spain), as reported by the White House itself.
Biden thus begins a new stage of his tour of the region in Saudi Arabia after a two-day visit to Israel, where he has met with senior officials of the country, as well as with the Palestinian authorities, and where he has stressed that the end of the conflict goes through a two-state solution.
The stop of the White House tenant has raised controversy, although the president has assured at all times that the visit is motivated by “strategic” issues and has highlighted that respect for Human Rights will be one of the main points that he will address with Saudi representatives.
On Biden’s agenda are scheduled meetings with King Salman bin Abdulaziz and other senior officials of the absolute monarchy, including Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman, identified, according to a declassified CIA report, as responsible for the murder of journalist Jamal Jashogi at the Saudi Embassy in Istanbul in October 2018.
