The President of the United States, Joe Biden, the British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, the French President, Emmanuel Macron and the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, held a four-person conversation this Sunday in which they applauded the talks for the arrival, as soon as possible, from a mission of the UN nuclear agency to the Zaporizhia plant, besieged by fighting between Russia and Ukraine.

The four leaders also highlighted the “importance of guaranteeing the safety of nuclear facilities” and “welcomed talks to enable a mission from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)” to the plant, according to a Downing Street statement picked up by Sky News.

A subsequent note from the White House has influenced that idea. “Military operations near the plant must be avoided,” according to the United States, before insisting on “the importance of an IAEA visit as soon as possible to determine the state of the security systems.”

The trip does not yet have a fixed date due to security concerns given the fighting around the area.

In addition, the four leaders have reiterated their commitment in general terms to the Ukrainian forces in the face of the Russian invasion.

Likewise, all of them have discussed “other shared priorities”, such as the talks on the Iranian nuclear program, and, in particular, methods to “dissuade the destabilizing regional activities” of Tehran.
