The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has congratulated the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, for his victory in the country’s general elections held this Sunday.

“On behalf of the people of the United States, I send our congratulations to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis of Greece on his re-election. I look forward to continuing our close cooperation on shared priorities to foster regional prosperity and security,” Biden said in a statement from the White House.

“Together, as allies, partners, and friends, Greece and the United States have stood up for democracy. We will continue to work with the Government and people of Greece, as well as our vibrant Greek-American community in the United States to continue this legacy,” he said. added.

For his part, the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, has also congratulated the “friend and partner of France” on his Twitter account. “Let’s continue together all the work undertaken for a stronger and more sovereign Europe”, continued the French president.

Mitsotakis, leader of the conservative New Democracy party, has celebrated the absolute majority achieved by his party in the legislative elections this Sunday (40.52 percent of the vote and 158 of the 300 seats in Parliament) and has promised to “roll up his sleeves” from tomorrow to implement “the necessary reforms” for the country.
