The president of the United States, Joe Biden, announced this Sunday during his meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodimir Zelenski, a new military aid package for Ukraine estimated at 375 million dollars (about 350 million euros).
Previously, sources from Biden’s entourage at the G7 summit being held in Hiroshima (Japan), had indicated that this package would include the delivery of artillery and HIMARS multi-launch missile systems.
During his meeting with Zelensky, President Biden stressed “the readiness of the United States to continue providing security assistance to meet Ukraine’s immediate needs on the battlefield.”
Biden has also referred to his recent decision to endorse the training of Ukrainian pilots in combat aircraft, considered as the prelude to the possible delivery of F-16s to kyiv. In this sense, Biden has limited himself to saying that “the United States continues to do everything possible to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capacity”, without giving more details about this initiative.
Zelensky, for his part, has “taken note” of Biden’s support for what he describes as the “international coalition for aviation.”
“We discussed further cooperation to strengthen our country’s defense capabilities, the implementation of the Ukraine Peace Formula, and Ukraine’s reconstruction and recovery projects,” the president said on his Twitter account.
Likewise, both leaders have discussed the Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine and the preparations for the NATO summit in July in Vilnius (Lithuania) as well as “the importance of obtaining security guarantees for Ukraine” before the country’s possible entry into the Alliance Atlantic.
