Aug. 31 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the United States, Joe Biden, has urged all political actors in Iraq to engage in a “national dialogue” to resolve the current crisis, in a telephone conversation with the Iraqi prime minister, Mostafá al Kazemi.
Biden has praised the role of Al Kazemi during the protests unleashed on Monday in Baghdad after the announcement of the cleric Muqtada al Sadr about his retirement from politics. She has also applauded the work of the security forces during the protests, which resulted in more than 30 deaths, according to a White House statement.
Now, he hopes that all parties will work to find a “common” solution that respects Iraqi law. Biden has insisted that the United States supports a “sovereign and independent” Iraq and has been willing to continue talking with Al Kazemi “in the coming weeks.”
