US President Joe Biden has stated that he believes his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, to be a “rational actor” who has, however, miscalculated his ability to invade Ukraine and suppress Ukrainians.

“I think (Vladimir Putin) is a rational actor who has miscalculated significantly,” the US president said during an interview with , adding that his goals were irrational, however.

Biden has explained that when you listen to Putin’s speeches in which he advocates a Russia that unites all Russian-speakers, you can read between the lines that his words are unreasonable.

“I think the speech, its goals were not rational… I think he thought he was going to be received with open arms, that this was the home of Mother Russia in kyiv, and that the place where he was going to be received , and I think he simply miscalculated”, said the President of the States during the interview with the aforementioned chain.

BIDEN DOES NOT BELIEVE THAT PUTIN CROSSES “THE RED LINE”

In relation to the possible use of nuclear weapons by Russia, Biden has stressed that he does not believe that Putin “will finally take that step”, although he has warned that its use could be a “catastrophic mistake”.

The president of the United States explained that even Putin’s threats have a destabilizing effect, repairing the possible misunderstandings that could arise in the event that Russia launches a nuclear attack on Ukraine.

He also refused to reveal what a US response would look like if Putin followed through on his nuclear threats. However, he has expressed his refusal to speak on the subject, maintaining that he would not be “responsible” to do so.

Asked what the red line is for the United States and NATO and whether the Pentagon and other agencies have started their investigations into what the response would be like if Russia used a tactical nuclear weapon, Biden has only confessed that talks are being held on the subject. .

The US president said last week that the world faces a threat of nuclear war for the first time since the Cuban missile crisis, and has warned that Putin “is not kidding.”

“For the first time since the Cuban missile crisis, we have a direct threat of the use of a nuclear weapon if, in fact, things continue the way they are,” Biden said, according to a statement released by the White House.
