Biden assures that he will not make concessions to Xi Jinping at the G-20 meeting

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, has assured that he will not make “fundamental concessions” in talks with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jiping, at the G-20 summit to be held next week.

“I am not willing to make any fundamental concessions” in the talks, the US president said, before stressing that he is “seeking competition, not conflict.”

“What I want to do with him (the Chinese president) when we talk is to expose what are the red lines of each other, understand what he believes are the critical national interests of China, what I know are the critical interests of the United States. United States, and determine whether or not they enter into conflict. And if they do, how to solve it and how to solve it,” Biden told reporters at a White House press conference.

The president has also indicated that he hopes to discuss with Xi issues such as Taiwan, as well as “a series of other issues, including fair trade and relations regarding its relations with other countries in the region.”

The meeting between Biden and Xi in Indonesia will mark the first face-to-face meeting since the US leader took office after his victory in the 2020 elections.
