The President of the United States, Joe Biden, and the new Prime Minister of Japan, Shigeru Ishiba, have advocated strengthening their cooperation with their international partners, within the framework of their bilateral relations and the increase in tensions in the region.

Biden called Ishiba to congratulate him on his election and stressed that the alliance between Washington and Tokyo “has served as a cornerstone of regional peace and prosperity for more than seven decades, reaching new heights” under the mandate of the now former prime minister. Minister Fumio Kishida.

“I look forward to working closely with Ishiba to continue deepening the global partnership between the US and Japan across the full range of security, economic, technology and diplomatic issues,” reads a statement from the White House.

In their first phone call, they reaffirmed their “determination to continue strengthening defense cooperation and maintaining peace and stability throughout the region”, underlining their “commitment to improving regional cooperation through a network of partners like-minded”, such as Austria and India, or South Korea and the Philippines.

Both have noted that “the American and Japanese people share deeply held values ​​and principles, including a commitment to uphold a global order that is free, open, secure and prosperous.”

For its part, the Japanese Prime Minister’s office has indicated through social network ” its cooperation with global partners.

The Parliament of Japan has ratified this Tuesday the former Minister of Defense Shigeru Ishiba as the new prime minister after he won the primary elections of the government Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) last week in which he beat the other favorite, Sanae Takaichi, in the second round.
