US President Joe Biden has spoken out against the US Supreme Court’s ruling on Monday, July 1, that former President Donald Trump cannot be prosecuted for acts committed during his time as head of state. However, the Supreme Court said he can be prosecuted for private acts and sent the former president’s case of subversion for the assault on the Capitol, of which he is accused, back to a lower court, delaying the holding of a trial. Trump called the decision a “victory for democracy.” It is a historic ruling that recognizes for the first time any form of presidential immunity from prosecution.
