Belgian Police arrest activist Greta Thunberg again at climate demonstration

MADRID 6 Oct. () –

Swedish activist Greta Thunberg has been detained again by Belgian authorities, this time during a demonstration in Brussels against climate change and fossil fuel subsidies.

The 21-year-old participated in a sit-in with 150 other activists on Saturday afternoon, according to the Belga news agency.

Thunberg was detained along with more than 100 protesters, a spokesperson for the United for Climate Justice (UCJ) campaign told DPA, before being released on Saturday night.

Protesters were calling for an end to fossil fuel subsidies.

The Swede became known around the world for her “school climate strike”, the beginning of the international climate movement Fridays for Future. Furthermore, since the beginning of the Gaza war he has repeatedly expressed solidarity with the Palestinians and accused Israel of genocide.

In Brussels, Thunberg wore a kufiya, a checkered scarf that has become a sign of solidarity with Palestine.
