July 27 () –
The Belarusian authorities have arrested this Wednesday the leader of the opposition formation United Civil Party (OGP, for its acronym in Belarusian), Nikolai Kozlov.
Along with Kozlov, the leader of the political organization in the capital, Minsk, Oksana Alekseeva, has also been arrested by the authorities, as detailed by the formation itself on its social networks.
“The attack on the last island of organized resistance has begun. This is a war,” former OGP leader Anatoli Lebedko has also asserted on his social media.
According to the newspaper ‘Nasha Niva’, Kozlov denounced the rigging of an election in 2008, after which the authorities of the Belarusian president, Alexander Lukashenko, accused him of “disseminating data” and the Prosecutor’s Office issued an arrest warrant.
Kozlov remained in solitary confinement for three months, for which, according to local media, he is considered a political prisoner.
