The Belarusian authorities have denounced this Thursday that “provocative acts” have been recorded by armed Ukrainian soldiers on the border between the two countries, due to an increase in tension due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The authorities of the Department of Border Control have indicated that there have been “isolated cases of provocations from the Ukrainian side” and have detailed that the last of them has taken place at the Podobrianka checkpoint, where several soldiers have pointed their weapons at members of the Belarusian Border Guard.
In addition, they have denounced that the Ukrainian military has uttered insults against the Belarusian agents, whom they have threatened. “These provocations are uncontrollable,” the authorities said in a statement.
“The border is not being monitored, there are simply some paramilitary groups with weapons. No insignia, no uniform,” they warned before indicating that this “poses a serious danger” in the area.
The country’s president, Alexander Lukashenko, has indicated that the Ukrainian Army has decided to deploy some 15,000 troops to the border areas during the war.
Likewise, it has requested that the measures to have ports in Russia be accelerated, according to information from the BelTA news agency. “It is necessary to discuss the logistics on this issue. I think the outstanding issues to get Russia to open a number of ports on its territory for us have been resolved,” he said.
“We have already started to make shipments, but we need these ports to prepare faster for our arrival,” he pointed out in relation to the sanctions imposed by the West, which prevent Belarus from exporting goods through ports located in the Baltic countries.
