The general secretary of Podemos, Ione Belarra, has once again asked the second vice president of the Government and leader of Sumar, Yolanda Díaz, to support her formation in the campaign for the regional and municipal elections on May 28 because the “best space politician to be able to change things in Spain”.
Podemos and Sumar certify that there will be no agreement for the general elections until after 28M
Further
Belarra made these statements to journalists after participating in the El Retiro park in a race with the Podemos candidate for Madrid mayor, Roberto Sotomayor, militants and supporters of his party.
He has insisted that Unidas Podemos has closed “more unity agreements than ever” at the territorial level ahead of the May elections because it has an “iron commitment to unity”, which is why he believes that now it should be Yolanda Díaz “who decides if wants to be the candidate of the unit, of the whole of that space”. At the moment, according to Belarra, there has been no progress in this regard.
Regarding the invitation of some parties for the leader of Sumar to participate in their campaign events, Belarra explained that she has publicly asked Díaz to “campaign for the candidates of Unidas Podemos”, because she believes “firmly that they are the best to be present to these elections”.
“If Unidas Podemos has shown anything, it is that we are here to transform, that we have enough courage to change the things and courageous policies that our country needs,” he added.
And in this sense, she has referred to what has happened in this legislature, in which, according to her, it has been United We Can who “has presented the most ambitious measures.” There have been “many examples that show that only with a very strong United We Can be able to change things”, she has settled.
For all this, he has once again asked Yolanda Díaz for “support for this political space, which I think is the best to change things in Spain as of May 28.”
A message to the PSOE
Belarra has taken the opportunity to send a message to the PSOE now that Easter is over and remind the Government of the pending homework that “cannot wait for the end of the third quarter or for the July exams.”
Thus, he has urged the Socialists to address the Housing Law in order to regulate rental prices, to cap the basic food basket, which “is weighing down the economy of families”, and “to also cap those mortgages at variable that is suffocating thousands of families in Spain as it already happened in the 2008 crisis”.
Regarding the amendments presented by ERC and EH-Bildu to the proposal of the Socialists to reform the so-called law of only yes is yes, Belarra has said that there is “a great harmony” between them and the proposals that the Ministry of Equality “carries quite a few weeks doing to the PSOE ”.
The ball is now in the court of the PSOE, which “has to decide if it wants to shake hands with the PP to return to the Penal Code of ‘the herd’ or an agreement and solution with the progressive majority of the investiture”, concluded the Leader of Podemos
“We continue to believe that the agreement is possible”
The Minister for Equality, Irene Montero, stated this Sunday that Unidas Podemos continues to believe that an agreement between the purple formation and Sumar is possible.
“There is nothing new, we continue to believe that an agreement is possible. While Yolanda makes that decision, we are going to do our part for these municipal and regional elections. We are working firmly for unity ”, she confessed in the Cáceres town of Trujillo, where she has visited the Chíviri festival.
Likewise, Montero has declared the need to “demonstrate to the citizenry as a whole that we are also capable in this last year of making courageous policies.” This, she assures, involves unblocking the housing law or “for the PSOE to release the hand of the Popular Party in the reform of the law only if it is yes and that we are able to reach an agreement with the feminist majority in Congress” .
