Beijing says US arms sales to Taiwan violate 'one China' principle and calls for it to stop "immediately"

MADRID 27 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Chinese authorities have appealed this Saturday to the US Government to stop selling weapons to Taiwan “immediately”, arguing that this puts at risk the ‘one China’ principle and, consequently, regional peace and stability.

“China urges the United States to immediately stop arming Taiwan and stop its dangerous movements that undermine peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait,” said a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry in statements reported by the news agency. Xinhua.

The main argument of the Asian Government to support its demand is that “US arms sales to the Chinese region of Taiwan seriously violate the ‘one China’ principle (…), harm relations between China and the United States and peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, and send a seriously wrong message to separatist forces seeking Taiwanese independence.

The Chinese Government spokesperson has reiterated his “strong” condemnation and “firm” opposition to this sale and has criticized the US target for “using Taiwan to contain China and promote an agenda favoring Taiwanese independence”, thus contradicting his commitment not to support such emancipation and undermining “the effort of both parties to stabilize relations” between Washington and Beijing.

Thus, from Foreign Affairs they have assured that “China will adopt resolute countermeasures and take all necessary measures to firmly defend national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity”, in case the United States ignores its demands and continues arming Taiwan. .
