Everything prepared in Beijing for the celebration of the most important political conclave of the last five years. The Great Hall of the People, armored with high security in the heart of the capital, will host from next Sunday the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, which will elect its new leaders and the policies for the next five years.

Xi Jinping hopes to be re-elected for his third consecutive term, having emerged as one of the three historical leaders of modern China in recent years. He would be the first leader to be re-elected for a third time and also the first to break the unwritten retirement age rule.
Part of the hard core of the political leadership, the so-called Political Bureau, will see changes and its new configuration will determine the ideological line of the party and the government of the country in the next period.
Signs and flower arrangements decorate public places in the capital, auguring success for the congress and welcoming the more than 2,200 delegates who come from different parts of the country to attend the congress and represent the more than 96 million members of the PPCh.
Criticism against the government for the management of the Covid pandemic
Despite the extensive propaganda display, the criticism and disagreements with the economic policy and the zero tolerance measures of the Covid are noted. City lockdowns and mass testing already have people exhausted.
Even unusual acts of rebellion take place in the capital. The images of a banner criticizing Xi and her tight control, and demanding freedom and food, have jumped to social networks in China.
Diverse expectations before an event that, surely, leaves no one indifferent. There will be those who think that we live in a historic time with Xi at the head of a country that is awakening by leaps and bounds, and there will be those who yearn for changes and new winds of real openness in the country.
