On the occasion of the presentation in Paris of Bariloche’s candidacy to organize Expo 2027, Gustavo Genusso, its mayor, evoked the majestic nature that surrounds that town and the leadership of its scientific community. About the electoral campaign in that country, we interviewed the journalist Marcos Cittadini from C5N Radio 10.
The Argentines who came to Paris to defend Bariloche’s candidacy as the venue for Expo 2027 believed to the end in the chances of that tourist city in southern Argentina. But the General Assembly of the BIE, the International Exhibition Office, determined this Wednesday, June 23, that this event will be organized by Serbia.
The mayor of Bariloche, Gustavo Genusso, however, highlighted in Paris America the advantages not only natural, but also in the area of scientific and technological research that this town in Argentine Patagonia presents.
“Nature gave us a lot, too much, I say. Those who do not know Bariloche are amazed when they see it because they cannot believe that such a place exists in the world. We are at the foot of the mountains, in the middle of lakes and mountains, surrounded by rivers and waterfalls. In the winter you can enjoy the snow; in the summer, the lakes, fishing, trekking. It’s wonderful. What most strikes me about Bariloche is its magnificence, those huge lakes, those towering mountains, that which is done on such a large scale that one cannot help but admire”.
The other major attraction of Bariloche is that it has become a scientific and technological center thanks, in particular, to the Balseiro Institute, where several generations of engineers and physical, physical nuclear in particular, but also mechanical, electromechanical, electronic engineers. Among them, Genusso himself, who is a nuclear engineer.
“It is the city where the nuclear reactors that Argentina has made and sold are born. The world is where the satellites that Argentina has put into orbit are made. It is where the radars are made, the tomographs. Bariloche has grown and continues to grow, it continues to develop technologies because it is somewhat in the imprint of the Bariloche technologist of being a pioneer in Argentina”, concludes the mayor of Bariloche.
