June 17 () –
The president of the far-right National Rally party, Jordan Bardella, assured this Monday that he will only be prime minister of France if he achieves an absolute majority in the early legislative elections to be held on June 30 and July 7.
“Who can believe that we can change the daily life of the French by living with a simple majority? Nobody. I tell the French: to prove ourselves, we need an absolute majority,” he stated in statements to the newspaper ‘Le Parisien’.
Bardella has also referred to the proposal to ban the Islamic veil in public spaces. “This continues to be an objective”, although it is no longer among its “priorities” and the proposal is moved to after 2027. The proposal to abolish VAT for essential products would also be in “a second phase”.
It does intend to improve purchasing power by opening negotiations with the EU to annul the regulations on electricity prices.
