Who is Banco Azteca accusing?

In the lawsuit, the company points to some accounts and users that have generated “false” content, as they positioned the hashtag #bancoaztecaenquiebra when the information is incorrect, according to the lawsuit. One of the accounts it points to is @catrina_nortena, which made several of these messages go viral.

Other accounts that have been pointed out are the YouTube channel “El Chapucero @NachoRgz”, as well as the Facebook and X accounts of Nacho Rodríguez. Other accounts that have been pointed out are @RedAMLOmx, whose identity is unknown, as well as @AntiTelevisaMx5; and @varamburucano, of the communicator Víctor Aramburu.

YouTube and Google, for their part, said they had no comments on the situation, after being consulted by Expansión to find out their position. For its part, Meta, the company said it had no comments on the matter either, when consulted on the situation.

It should be noted that Banco Azteca’s lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California and is an Authorization of Discovery for Use in Foreign Proceedings.

What actions have platforms taken against automated accounts?

Elon Musk, owner of X, has repeatedly raised concerns about the use of bots and manipulation on social media. The SpaceX and Tesla owner has also stressed the need for transparency on digital platforms and has been a vocal critic of the manipulation of information through automated accounts.

Although he has promoted the idea of improving account authentication to reduce the impact of bots and has been a supporter of regulation that guarantees authenticity in digital communication, his actions on the social network he operates are not transparent.

For their part, Meta and Google have implemented account verification mechanisms, stricter policies against spam and bots, and have published transparency reports detailing their efforts. These reports include data on the removal of fake accounts and the implementation of artificial intelligence technologies to detect suspicious behavior on their platforms.

It also highlights that both Salinas Pliego and Elon Musk have stressed in the past the importance of freedom of expression and transparency, although from different perspectives and with emphasis on different aspects of the problem. While Salinas focuses on defending his right to express himself without censorship, Musk advocates for a safer and more authentic internet, free from the influence of automated and malicious accounts.
