The northern province of Bac Giang in Vietnam earned nearly 6.8 billion VND ($290.5 million) from lychee sales and support services in 2022, according to the provincial People’s Committee.
The lychee, whose harvest season usually lasts from mid-May to the end of July, brought about VND 4.41 billion to Bac Giang, dubbed as the national center of this tropical fruit.
Bac Giang lychee has been sold across the country and has been placed on the shelves of major supermarkets such as GO, Mega Market, Saigon Co.op, Hapro, Aeon, Lotte and Vinmart, along with domestic e-commerce platforms and foreign companies such as Voso, Sendo, Tiki, Shopee, Lazada, Postmart, Alibaba and Amazon.

A total of 75,900 tons of Bac Giang lychees were shipped abroad, accounting for 38.1% of cumulative sales. China, the United States, Australia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the Middle East and some Southeast Asian nations were the main importers.

The committee said Bac Giang will maintain lychee areas in 2023 and increase those that meet VietGap and GlobalGap standards.
The city will work to expand domestic consumption channels, promote sales through e-commerce platforms and boost exports to promising markets such as Japan, the EU, Southeast Asia and the Middle East, in addition to China, its traditional market.
