MADRID Dec. 29 () –
The Azeri Government has reduced the visa-free stay period for Russian citizens from 180 to 90 days so that they can visit the Central Asian country.
The Azeri Prime Minister, Ali Asadov, has signed the decree that affects both citizens of the Russian Federation and citizens of other countries who come from Russian soil.
“They will be able to stay in Azerbaijan without a visa for no more than 90 days a year,” indicates the document published on the Government news portal.
Bilateral relations have been affected by the incident of the Azerbaijan Airlines Embraer 190 plane that crashed on Christmas Day at the Aktau airport in Kazakhstan after losing control while flying over Russian airspace.
The Russian president has already apologized for what happened and has acknowledged that the anti-aircraft defenses had been activated, but his Azeri counterpart, Ilham Aliyev, demands that he recognize his responsibility. The impact left 38 dead and 29 injured, most of them seriously.
