Azerbaijan accuses Armenia of the explosion of a mine in Shusha that leaves three soldiers injured

23 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Azerbaijani authorities have denounced that at least three soldiers have been injured as a result of the explosion of a mine supposedly placed by the Armenian forces as a military truck carrying supplies passed by in the Shusha district.

“As a result of an Armenian military provocation in the Shusha district, an Army military truck was deliberately hit with a mine, injuring three soldiers,” the Azeri Foreign Ministry said.

Thus, he stressed in a message published on his account on the social network Twitter that “Armenia must immediately stop its military provocations in the sovereign territory of Azerbaijan.”

For its part, the Azerbaijan Ministry of Defense has indicated in a statement published on its website that anti-tank and anti-personnel mines “produced in Armenia in 2021” have been found in the area.

“We declare again that the transport of military supplies from Armenia to the economic region of Azerbaijan in Karabakh must be stopped immediately and that the illegal Armenian armed detachments must be withdrawn from Azeri territory as soon as possible,” it concluded.

The Armenian ambassador to the region, Edomn Marukyan, has subsequently stressed on Twitter that Yerevan “has nothing to do” with the incident. “Azerbaijan’s accusations against Armenia are groundless and only serve as propaganda for a new aggression or provocation against Armenia,” he has maintained.

Azerbaijan recovered the city of Shusha in 2020, taken by Armenia in the First Nagorno Karabakh War in 1994. Both countries have maintained various contacts to try to sign a peace agreement, although the talks have encountered various obstacles, including the situation in around the Lachin corridor, which connects Armenia with the self-proclaimed republic of Arstakh.
