The change of plans with Avowed can be explained with a text or an image. The official literature offered by Xbox via Twitter he says that “there are a lot of games on the way,” so the decision has been made to delay Avowed to February 15, 2025 “to give players a break.” Phil Spencer CEO of Microsoft Gaming, has also spoken out on the aforementioned social network to assure that they are proud of Obsidian Entertainment’s work and want to give the studio and Avowed the best possible launch. All of this is summed up in the image that Xbox has shared and that you can see below:
As Microsoft has recalled, Xbox will release six games in the remainder of the year: Age of Mythology Retold (September 4), Ara: History Untold (September 24), Call of Duty Black Ops 6 (October 25), Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 (November 19), Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (2024) and Towerborne (2024), as well as three expansions: World of Warcraft The War Within (August 26), Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred (October 8) and Starfield: Shattered Space (2024). Delaying Avowed to early 2025 will disappoint those who were looking forward to Obsidian Entertainment’s new RPG, but at least they will have a choice.
It should also be noted that Avowed is a new intellectual property that would have faced off against established franchises and sequels during the Christmas campaign.
Despite not having a date beyond a vague fall of 2024, Obsidian let slip that Avowed would be available on November 12. That date appeared in an official article published in June, but that part was deleted. Possibly the goal was to release the game on that date, but by then Xbox Games Studios would not have been too clear about it and decided it wasn’t worth committing to just yet. In addition to the games first-partytitles will be coming to Game Pass and Xbox Series over the next few months third-party like STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, which recently delayed its release to November 20.
