Avatel Telecom has presented the unions with an employment regulation file (ERE) for organizational reasons for 849 workers, which represents a 45% cut in the workforce of the 1,886 employees that the company had on April 1, 2024. (the group in total had 2,100 at the end of 2023), as company sources have informed Europa Press.
On April 12, the teleco informed the unions of its intention to undertake a collective dismissal, although on Monday afternoon the negotiation table was set up, a meeting in which the teleco delivered the ERE report and the affectation of the measure.
Avatel Telecom is currently the fifth telecommunications operator in Spain and after a stage of growth based on the acquisition of other smaller companies in the sector – 155 since 2016 – an “adjustment and consolidation phase” begins.
“Now the process begins to correct the oversizing of Avatel’s structure with the aim of reducing inefficiencies, as well as insufficient levels of productivity,” stated the sources consulted.
In this way, the telecom has carried out a study of its structure to “remedy” that situation and analyze both the structure and the organization of the Avatel Telecom workforce in order to “identify the necessary improvements” to optimize and simplify it for the purpose to make your business more “efficient” and ensure its long-term viability.
“The company faces this situation with the utmost respect for its professionals and its representatives and with the desire to reach an agreement, trusting that the conversations with the legal representatives of the workers will be fruitful and will allow this difficult process to be concluded in the best possible conditions. for the affected workforce,” the company added.
