While Gris is described as a “serene and evocative experience, free of danger, frustration and death”, Neva is presented as “a love song that we dedicate to our children, our parents and our planet.” We are faced with an action adventure that tells the life of Alba, a young woman whose destiny becomes intertwined with that of a cub after a traumatic event in which dark forces intervene. The relationship between the girl and the curious puppy is the main driving force of the story, while the background is based on the environmental problems that the Earth suffers due to human action.
Alba and the cub venture on a dangerous journey through a dying world, full of dangers. Unlike Gris, Neva features “light, intuitive combat” in which players take on creatures using the girl’s sword and the cub’s skills. While they fight for their survival, the relationship between Alba and the cub will evolve and over time they will learn to cooperate and help each other to overcome increasingly complicated situations. In addition to combat there are puzzles and platforming, while the user interface has been reduced to a minimum.
In Neva, one of the keys lies in the evolution of the relationship between the young woman and the she-wolf, who will go from being a puppy to a she-wolf looking for her own identity. This will test the committed relationship that unites them while the world threatens to destroy them.
“We wanted to explore a little the changes that occur in these relationships over time,” explains Adrian Cuevas, co-founder, Nomada Studio. “At first, children need protection and education, but once they reach adolescence, they can become rebellious and stand up to their authority figures. As they become adults, they become more responsible and begin to want to live their own lives, something that parents have to accept. To represent this relationship, we needed two characters to show that at least one of them is growing.”
