Three years after Amnesia: Rebirth (2020), an installment starring the young Tasi Trianon who in 1937 wakes up in the middle of the desert in Algeria, comes Amnesia: The Bunker. In this installment of the survival horror saga, players are transported to the First World War (1914-1918) to put themselves in the shoes of Henri Clément, a French soldier who finds himself abandoned to his fate in a desolate bunker. At his disposal is a revolver with one bullet, a dynamo lantern that makes more noise than desired, supplies he finds underground, and whatever else he manages to make on the fly.
Henri is not alone in the bunker. In addition to dead companions, of which you can take advantage of everything he has left before suffering the fatal outcome, and generously sized rats, our protagonist is pursued by an omnipresent threat that reacts to all his noises and movements. How to face this and other dangers that lurk in the dark will depend on each one and on the resources available. The ultimate goal is to get out of the bunker alive and a good first piece of advice is to not let the lights go out.
To escape you have to explore and experiment. Find out what’s going on underground and find answers to various questions, including what happened to the other soldiers, where have all the officers gone and what is the creature lurking in the shadows. As they play, players will become familiar with the ins and outs of the map, but keep in mind that the non-linear, semi-open world of Amnesia: The Bunker is dynamic and the omnipresent threat has unforeseen behavior.
One of the keys to survival is adaptation. Player decisions change the game’s response, actions have consequences, randomization exists, and the creature lurking in the dark is unpredictable, which is why Frictional Games promises that “no game will ever be the same.”
