Open science is not limited to facilitating free access to scientific publications and research data. It implies the development of broader and more complex aspects that contribute to the production of open scientific knowledge. In addition, it is based on free and unrestricted access (open access) codes, data and publications, as well as an open evaluation process.
Communications UA.- “Development and implementation of a sustainable ecosystem for the installation of institutional capacities, communication of open science and the government of an institutional policy of open access”, is the name of the new project awarded by the Autonomous University of Chile with financing from the Innovation in Higher Education in Gender (INES) of the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID).
The executive director of the project and coordinator of the Repository and Academic Journals of this house of studies, Andrea Rubilar, explained that “the general objective is to develop, implement and consolidate the institutional strategic plan for open access through change management, governance of data and installation of institutional bases and technical capacities in a sustainable manner”.
He stressed that this initiative will allow “the installation of capacities around the management and production of institutional open science, a robust infrastructure through a data repository, publications and journals, and the construction of a specialized search portal aimed at all audiences” .
Another impact is “the articulation with the network of ANID repositories that will put us in tune with universities worldwide in open access, research development and science communication.”
According to the ANID website, in 2021 and for the first time the call for InES Ciencia Abierta funds was opened, awarding proposals to 12 higher education institutions, including the Autonomous University of Chile.
The following year, another six new corresponding projects were approved, also one of them for this house of studies, which contemplate its execution for two years.
