Authorities of the member countries of the Pacific Alliance and Ecuador will analyze the advances in climate policy and its implementation through operational and sustainable monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) systems, during a meeting that will be held from 24 to 26 May at the headquarters of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Santiago, Chile.
The sixth meeting of the Technical Subgroup for Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (SGT-MRV) of the Pacific Alliance (AP) will bring together representatives from Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Ecuador, as the invited country. Representatives of Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), of the Gold Standard as the implementing entity of the program and of the coordination of the SGT-MRV will also participate, who will discuss advances in the harmonization and convergence of the MRV systems of greenhouse gas emissions. (GHG), mitigation actions, carbon price instruments and climate financing.
During the first day of the meeting, climate policy and MRV systems by country will be addressed in a session open to the general public. Likewise, ECLAC will share the regional panorama in terms of carbon prices and there will be an institutional presentation of the International Emission Trading Association (IETA) and Conservation International as new allies of SGT-MRV. He Pacific Alliance MRV Technical Subgroup (SGT-MRV) aims to strengthen and advance in the harmonization and convergence of climate MRV systems for the reduction of GHG emissions and other pollutants.
In the second phase of work of the SGT-MRVwhich began in 2022 and ends in 2026, efforts have focused on exchanges and technical studies, capacity development and implementation pilots in each country of this regional alliance.
