authorities search for man suspected of killing 4 people in Georgia

Authorities were searching for a man suspected of fatally shooting three men and a woman in Georgia.

Andre Longmore, a 40-year-old man from Hampton, south of Atlanta, is believed to be armed and dangerous, Hampton Police Chief James Turner said during a news conference.

Authorities said the shooting happened Saturday morning in a subdivision in Hampton, a city of about 8,500 people about 40 miles (65 kilometers) south of Atlanta.

Turner said detectives are investigating at least four crime scenes that are in close proximity to one another. He declined to discuss a possible motive.

“I confirm that four people have died,” Melissa Robinson, a spokeswoman for Henry County government, told Associated Press. “As of now, the suspect is still on the run,” he added.

Several local law enforcement agencies are providing assistance, as is the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said she had no further information other than that several GBI agents had been requested to help.

Authorities have not released the names of the victims as they are trying to notify their families. For his part, Henry County Sheriff Reginald Scandrett announced that his office is offering a $10,000 reward to those who can provide relevant information leading to Longmore’s arrest and prosecution.

During his arraignment he also addressed Longmore directly, saying: “Wherever you are, we’ll find you in whatever hole you’re hiding in and take you into custody. Period.”

Several local law enforcement agencies and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are assisting in the search for the suspect and the investigation.

These shootings mark the 31st mass murder of 2023, claiming the lives of at least 153 people this year, according to a database compiled by Associated Press and usa today in collaboration with Northeastern University.
