Authorities and specialists will discuss territorial production policies and digitization at an international seminar organized by ECLAC

Government representatives and specialists will participate next Tuesday, April 18, in the international seminar: “Territorial productive policies, digitalization and productivity”, organized by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in a hybrid way from its headquarters in Santiago , Chili.

The opening remarks will be given by Nicolás Grau, Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism of Chile; Félix Fernández-Shaw, Director for Latin America and the Caribbean of DGINTPA of the European Commission; and Marco Llinás, Director (ai) of ECLAC’s Division of Productive and Business Development.

The purpose of the meeting is to exchange experiences, results and tools related to productive development work with a territorial approach, based on two projects financed by the European Union as part of the Facility for Development in Transition.

The first is the Territorial Facility, implemented by ECLAC in Argentina, Chile and Colombia together with institutions specialized in territorial economic development, such as the Secretariat of Industry and Productive Development in Argentina, the Undersecretariat of Regional Development in Chile (SUBDERE) and the Department National Planning Department in Colombia (DNP).

The second is the Digital Agriculture Facility, implemented by ECLAC in conjunction with the Ibero-American Network for the Digitalization of Agriculture and Livestock (RIDAG) -formed by INTA Argentina, INIA Chile, IRTA Spain and INIA Uruguay-. This included consultancies in specific areas in Costa Rica (ICAFE) and Ecuador (Think Tank Cacao Foundation).

Through these projects, the Commission has promoted the development of the capacities of subnational governments in territorial productive development. Specifically, his work focused on five areas: governance and multilevel organization; digitalization of agricultural companies and local MSMEs; development of mixed rural extension networks; management of territorial digital hubs; and development of Local Development Plans.
