July 3 () –
Sydney authorities have asked thousands of people to evacuate their homes due to flooding caused by torrential rains.
The Weather Service has issued dozens of evacuation notices. There are 15 evacuation orders in force addressed to 3,500 people, while 17 evacuation notices have been managed for another 6,000, the newspaper ‘The Sydney Morning Herald’ has reported.
Experts expect the rains to continue until Tuesday, with the next 24 hours being the most dangerous, as described by the Minister of Emergency Services for the State of New South Wales, Steph Cooke, as reported by the media ‘9news ‘.
Likewise, the Windsor Bridge -which crosses the Hawkesbury River- in the city of Sydney has been closed due to the overflow of the river’s flow.
For its part, the New South Wales region transport company has advised drivers to avoid non-essential travel.
