Australia sanctions five Iranians in retaliation for missile attack on Israel

The Australian authorities have imposed this Tuesday a new package of sanctions against five Iranian citizens, all of them allegedly linked to Iran’s ballistic program, in retaliation for the missile attack carried out on October 1 against Israel.

“Iran’s missile program poses a threat to regional and international security,” the Australian Foreign Office said in a statement in which it stated that “the launch of more than 180 ballistic missiles against Israel on October 1 marked “a dangerous escalation that increased the risk of a broader regional war.”

Thus, they have introduced restriction measures against two directors and a senior official of the Iranian Aerospace Industries Organization, the director of the Industrial Group Shahid Bagheri and the commercial director of the Industrial Group Shahid Hemmat.

“Iran-backed groups continue to launch daily attacks across the region using missiles and other military equipment provided by Tehran. The delivery of ballistic missiles to Russia last month to assist the country in its war against Ukraine further demonstrates the destabilizing role of Iran,” the text states.

With these sanctions, the Australian Government has already sanctioned 200 people and entities linked to Iran. Among them there are nearly a hundred with ties to the Revolutionary Guard. “Australia will continue to hold Iran accountable for its reckless and destabilizing actions,” he concluded.

However, groups such as the Jewish Council of Australia have criticized these measures and have accused Anthony Albanese’s government of “hypocrisy”, while demanding that “greater pressure be exerted to prevent Israel from committing genocide” in the Strip. from Gaza. To this end, they ask for the imposition of sanctions for this country as well.
