The British countryside is not usually the setting for too many video games, and that will be where Atomfall will take us, the new title from Rebellion (Sniper Elite, Zombie Army) that has been seen today with a trailer showing us its setting and gameplay. The game is scheduled to launch in 2025 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), and will be available on Game Pass from day one.

The Atomfall campaign is set in an alternative timeline and is inspired by the nuclear accident that occurred at Windscale, in the north of England, in 1957. After the disaster at the nuclear power plant, a quarantine zone is created waiting for help, But five years later, the isolation maintained by the military is still in force and external assistance is conspicuous by its absence. The area is picture postcard, with its undulating landscapes, lush valleys, caves and the picturesque English village that does not lack a pub and a red telephone booth, but behind this bucolic setting hides a hostile world and a dark mystery.

Players put themselves in the shoes of a character who wants to know what happened and what is happening. In Atomfall, discovering the mystery does not consist of following a line of missions, but rather the game offers the player freedom while leaving clues to advance the plot on the right path. The main character has a diary where he accumulates information that can be useful to find the location of places to explore.

As he investigates the mystery that Windscale hides, the hero will meet all kinds of characters, including the people who live trapped in the town and the military who control it with their weapons that seem taken from another era. There is also the British Atomic Research Division (BARD), a mysterious organization that, in addition to patrol robots, maintains a series of bunkers also protected by these automatons. On the other hand, the quarantine has given life to several cults that the player will also have to face.

In the trailer we can see that in Atomfall there is exploration, conversation, investigation and fighting. When it comes time to enter combat it is important to be prepared, and to do so it is necessary to have accumulated resources to have an arsenal up to the task. There are weapons of all kinds, from an ax to firearms to bows and cricket bats. There is also a crafting system and tools like a metal detector, while inventory space is limited.
