At least two dead and several wounded in a shooting near a Kurdish cultural center in Paris

At least two people have died and four have been injured in a shooting in the 10th district of Paris, in the heart of the French capital, and very close to a Kurdish cultural center. Two of the injured are in critical condition.

The main suspect, a man between 60 and 70 years old, has been arrested according to Reuters.

The police operation is underway and the population is asked to avoid this area and allow the emergency services to intervene.

As reported le parisien, the shooting took place near the Ahmet-Kaya Kurdish cultural center, at 16 Enghien Street. From french nationality, the author of the shots would be retired from SNCF, the state railway company, where he worked as a conductor. During his arrest, the police seized the gun he used to shoot.

Emmanuel Grégoire, deputy mayor of Paris, published a message on the networks to convey “a thought for the victims” and for those who have witnessed “the drama”.

The Paris Prosecutor’s Office announced that an investigation has been opened for “murder, voluntary manslaughter and aggravated violence”, thus leaving aside the terrorist track.
