In this context, the Secretary of the State Department, Antony Blinken, met this Monday with the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Iraq, Fuad Hussein, in Washington on the occasion of the ministerial meeting of the International Coalition to defeat the Islamic State. and has underlined Washington’s “continued” commitment to “defeat” the jihadist group “around the world to guarantee greater security and stability.”

In fact, representatives of the members of this coalition – on the tenth anniversary of its creation – have praised Iraq’s “continued cooperation in the fight against Islamic State in the region and its permanent leadership in broader lines of action.” , such as stabilization, combating financing, disrupting foreign terrorist travel, and preventing recruitment.

In this regard, they have committed to supporting the efforts of the Government of Iraq “to safeguard the security, peace and development of the Iraqi people”, while stating that “the planned transition of the military mission” to “bilateral partnerships “security reflects a reduction in threat.”
