At least six dead and dozens injured in a fire in a nursing home in Milan

six people have died and more than 80 have been injured, some of them seriouslyafter the fire that occurred this Friday at Casa per coniugi, a nursing home located south of Milan, as reported by Italian news agencies.

According to the ANSA news agency, the fire broke out around 01:20 local time, in Cinquecento street, and the firefighters are at the scene. Among the deceased are two women, 69 and 87 yearswho were roommates.

The other four fatalities are three women aged 75, 84 and 85 and a 73-year-old man. They all died from smoke poisoning. which mainly affected the first floor of the building before reaching the second.

Luca Cari, a spokesman for the national fire service, confirmed the death toll to Reuters, saying that the fire had been put out and that they were investigating its causes.
