At least seven dead and 25 injured by the collapse of a roof in a school in Thailand

May 23. (EUROPE PRESS) –

At least seven people have been killed and 25 others injured after a sports court roof collapsed during a heavy storm at a school in Phichit province in central Thailand.

The storm began at 6:30 p.m. (local time), with heavy rain in the Sam Ngam district, when students were playing in various sports facilities under a metal roof to take shelter.

The structure collapsed, trapping many of the students. In a preliminary report, there were six dead and 18 injured, seven of them in serious condition. A seventh child, aged six, died early Wednesday morning after succumbing to his injuries at the hospital, reports the ‘Bangkok Post’ newspaper.

The governor of Phichit province, Payon Asavapichayon, together with his ‘number two’, Singharat Whongsaengiam, went tonight to the scene of the incident, to review the rescue operation after the storm.
