Jan. 1 (EUROPA PRESS) –
At least nine people have died and several have been injured after a stampede in a shopping center in the capital of Uganda, Kampala, in the framework of the New Year celebrations, according to a statement from the Metropolitan Police.
Police spokesman Luke Owoyesigyre has reported that the stampede occurred at midnight in a well-known shopping center in the capital after a series of concerts were held, as reported by the Monitor news portal.
The organizer of the event urged attendees to leave the place to enjoy the fireworks outside, after which the crowds took place, which resulted in the death of five people.
Subsequently, the emergency services transported several victims to a nearby hospital, where the balance of nine deaths was finally confirmed, including minors, as reported by the New Vision news portal.
