MADRID Nov. 1 (EUROPA PRESS) –
At least four suspected separatist militants have been killed and eight others have been detained following an operation by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard in the province of Sistan and Balochistan, on the border with Afghanistan, in the southeast of the country.
The operation was carried out with the support of the Army and combat drone units participated for the first time, according to Guard spokesman General Ahmad Shafaei.
Sistan and Balochistan, which borders Pakistan and Afghanistan, is Iran’s poorest province and a stronghold of the country’s Sunni Baloch population.
This past weekend, the province became the scene of a “terrorist attack” against a police station that left a dozen police officers dead in an alleged assault by the opposing Salafist armed group Jaish al Adl (Army of Justice, Sunni extremist). to the country’s Shiite authorities.
