September 7 (EUROPA PRESS) –
At least four people were killed and 25 others injured on Saturday in an Israeli airstrike on a former school used as a shelter for displaced people in Gaza City.
Local sources cited by the official Palestinian news agency WAFA have indicated that the Israeli air force has bombed the Amr Ibn al-Aas School in the Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood in the north of the Gaza capital.
The Israeli military has confirmed the attack and stressed that the site was home to a “command centre” of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) from which attacks against Israeli forces and Israel were planned.
The military statement stressed that “numerous measures” have been taken to avoid civilian casualties, such as the use of precision munitions, aerial surveillance and the use of other sources of intelligence.
“The terrorist organisation Hamas systematically violates international law by brutally exploiting civilian institutions and the population, who are used as human shields for its terrorist activities,” he said.
International organisations have repeatedly denounced that the bombing of civilian infrastructure such as schools and hospitals constitutes a violation of international law.
