at least four dead and two injured

( Spanish) — At least four people died and two more were injured this Sunday in an armed attack perpetrated against a vehicle on a highway in central Mexico, according to a statement from the Zacatecas State Peace Building Table.

According to the document, the attack occurred in the municipality of Villa de Cos, when an “organized crime group” opened fire on the car on federal highway 54, which connects the states of Zacatecas with Coahuila.

The State Table said that the injured were transferred to receive medical attention, but their destination or condition was not indicated.

He adds that the security forces mobilized to find those responsible for the attack, although they have not reported any arrests.

The Zacatecas Attorney General’s Office is investigating the incident and trying to determine the identity of the victims, indicated in the statement from the State Board.

Several police officers who arrived at the scene of the attack told a team that the altercation was the result of an attempted assault and that the victims were of Colombian origin.
